Text to PDF Converter for .txt Files

Monospaced or proportional, with line numbers when you want them

PDF preview

The result appears here as you type or paste.

Converted in this browser tab. Nothing leaves your device and nothing is kept unless you choose “Open in text editor”.

Plain text, laid out as a PDF

Drop a .txt file here or paste text from Notepad, and the page preview shows it line for line. Choose a monospaced or proportional font, add line numbers, or join lines that were wrapped by hand, then download the PDF. It is made in this browser tab: free, with no upload and no account.

How to save a text file as PDF

  1. Bring the text. Drop a .txt file on the converter, choose Open file, or paste from Notepad, a terminal or an e-mail.
  2. Set it up. Monospaced keeps columns and ASCII tables aligned; Proportional reads more like a letter. Tick Line numbers for code and logs, or Join wrapped lines for text that was broken at a fixed width.
  3. Download. The PDF is laid out in the tab, page by page, and saved to your downloads.

Need to change the text first? “Open in text editor” moves it to the online text editor, with line numbers, find and replace, and saving as you type.

Good to know before you convert

  • Long lines wrap at the right margin rather than running off the page; with line numbers on, a wrapped line keeps a single number.
  • Tabs become spaces up to the next stop of four characters, so the layout matches most editors.
  • Formatting symbols are text: asterisks or hashes print as they are. For Markdown with real headings, use Markdown to PDF.
  • Scripts outside the fonts (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew) are left out; the converter tells you when that happens.
  • Old Notepad files saved as Windows-1252 or UTF-16 are read correctly; the converter names the encoding when it is not UTF-8, so a wrong guess is easy to spot.

What you can set

  • Every space, tab and empty line kept: columns stay lined up
  • Line numbers in the margin, counted per line of the file
  • Monospaced Commit Mono or proportional Inter, 9 to 12 point
  • Join lines that were wrapped by hand into flowing paragraphs
  • Reads UTF-8, UTF-16 and old Windows-1252 Notepad files
  • A4 or Letter, one-inch margins, numbered pages, selectable text
  • Logs, CSV, subtitles and code files open as text too
  • Runs in your browser: nothing uploaded, nothing to install

Questions

How do I turn a TXT file into a PDF?

Drop the .txt file on the converter or use Open file. The preview shows the page as the PDF will have it; pick the font, size and paper, then press Download PDF. The PDF takes the name of the text file.

Can I save Notepad text as a PDF?

Yes. Copy the text out of Notepad and paste it here, or open the .txt file Notepad saved. Older files saved as ANSI (Windows-1252) or Unicode (UTF-16) are read correctly, and the converter says which encoding it used.

Will columns and indents stay lined up?

With the Monospaced font, yes: every character takes the same width, spaces are kept as typed and tabs move to the next stop of four characters, so tables drawn with spaces and indented code look as they did in the editor.

Can the PDF show line numbers?

Tick Line numbers. Each line of the file gets its number in a grey margin, the way a code editor shows them. A line too long for the page wraps without a second number, so the numbers still match the original file.

My text breaks every 70 or 80 characters. Can I fix that?

Tick Join wrapped lines. Lines inside a paragraph are joined into one, while empty lines, list items and indented lines keep their breaks. A word split with a hyphen at the end of a line is put back together.

Is there a size limit?

Files up to 20 MB can be converted. The preview shows the first 2,000 lines to stay quick; the PDF always contains the whole text. No server is involved, so the speed depends only on your computer or phone.
