Markdown to Word Converter
Paste a ChatGPT or Claude answer, download a tidy Word file
The result appears here as you type or paste.
Converted in this browser tab. Nothing leaves your device and nothing is kept unless you choose “Open in Markdown editor”.
From a chat answer to a Word document
Paste an answer from ChatGPT, Claude or another chat assistant, or any Markdown, and download it as a Word (.docx) file. Asterisks and hash signs become real bold text, headings, lists and tables, and chat source marks are tidied away. It all happens in this browser tab, with no upload and no account.
How to move an AI answer into Word
- Copy the answer. In ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, press the copy button under the reply, or select the part you want and copy it.
- Paste it here. The preview on the right shows the page with proper headings and lists, and without the ** and ## signs.
- Download as Word. The .docx is built in the tab, ready for Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages.
Pasting a reply straight into Word often leaves the asterisks in, or brings the chat’s colours and fonts along. Going through Markdown gives a clean document in Word’s own styles. To rework the text first, “Open in Markdown editor” keeps it in the Markdown editor; for a page view with export to Word, there is the online word editor.
What the Word file leaves out
- Maths in LaTeX (\( … \), $$ … $$) stays as source text; no Word equations are made.
- Heading levels 4 to 6 become normal paragraphs.
- Footnotes written as [^1] stay as they are typed.
- Pictures come along only when embedded in the Markdown; pictures linked from websites become their description, linked to the address.
- Table column widths are shared out evenly; adjust them in Word if a column needs more room.
- Syntax colours in code are not kept; code stays monospaced.

Questions
How do I get a ChatGPT answer into Word without the asterisks?
Press the copy button under the answer, paste it into the box here and choose Download as Word. The copy button gives Markdown, the plain text with ** and # signs; the converter turns those signs into bold text, headings and lists in a .docx file.
Should I use the copy button or select the text with the mouse?
Either works. The copy button gives Markdown, which is used as it is. Selected and copied text arrives formatted, and the box turns it into Markdown first, so headings, lists and links still come through. The same goes for Claude, Gemini and other assistants.
Are the headings real Word headings?
Yes. # becomes Heading 1, ## Heading 2 and ### Heading 3, so they show in Word’s navigation pane and a table of contents can be built from them. Deeper levels (####) become ordinary paragraphs.
What happens to maths formulas and code?
Code blocks keep their line breaks and spacing in Consolas on a light grey background. Formulas written in LaTeX, such as \frac{a}{b}, stay as their source text: Word equations are not made, so retype those in Word’s equation editor if you need them.
Which font and page size does the Word file use?
Georgia at 12 point on A4 or Letter paper, whichever you pick, with one-inch margins. Headings, lists and tables use Word’s own styles, so changing the font or spacing in Word afterwards is a matter of changing a style.
Is my chat text uploaded anywhere?
No. The page builds the .docx in your browser tab and hands it to your downloads. The text never reaches a server, which matters when an answer contains work or personal details.
