Markdown with the result in view
This online Markdown editor shows your source and its preview side by side and updates the preview as you type. It follows GitHub Flavored Markdown, with tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code. Save the source as a .md file, or download the formatted result as HTML, Word or PDF. Everything stays in your browser.
How it works
- Write. Type Markdown in the source pane, or paste it from anywhere, a chat answer included. The toolbar adds the symbols for you if you do not know them yet.
- Check. The preview redraws as you type. Write, Split and Preview above the text choose what you see; on a phone it is Write or Preview.
- Export. Download, then Markdown, saves the .md file as written. Web page, Word or PDF save the formatted version instead.

Convert Markdown in one step
- Markdown to PDFA README or notes as a paged PDF with real, selectable text.
- Markdown to WordA chat answer or .md file as a Word document with real headings.
- Markdown to HTMLClean HTML from Markdown: a fragment to paste or a whole page.
- HTML to MarkdownHTML code, or text copied from a web page, as tidy Markdown.
- Word to MarkdownMarkdown from a Word file or a Word copy-paste, pictures alongside.
The converters keep nothing: paste, download, done. Use the editor when the text is still changing.

Questions
What is Markdown?
Markdown is a way of writing formatted text with ordinary characters: # for a heading, **two asterisks** for bold, - for a list item. The file stays readable as plain text, and tools such as this editor, GitHub and many note apps turn it into formatted pages.
Which Markdown does the preview follow?
GitHub Flavored Markdown: standard CommonMark, fenced code blocks included, plus tables, task lists (- [ ] and - [x]), strikethrough (~~text~~) and web addresses that become links by themselves. Lines inside a paragraph join up, as in a README on GitHub; leave an empty line to start a new paragraph.
Can I export Markdown to Word or PDF?
Yes. Download, then Markdown (.md), saves the source exactly as written. Web page (.html), Word (.docx) and PDF save the formatted result, keeping headings (three levels), emphasis, lists, tables, links and code.
Can I open a Markdown file from my computer?
Yes: use Open, or drop a .md file on the page. It comes in as Markdown source with its preview, character for character. Plain .txt files come in the same way.
Is HTML inside my Markdown shown in the preview?
Simple HTML such as <kbd>, or <details> is shown. Scripts, styles, forms, frames and pictures from other websites are left out of the preview, so a file from anywhere is safe to look at; the source itself keeps every character.
Can I use the Markdown editor on a phone?
Yes. On a narrow screen it switches between Write and Preview instead of showing both, and the toolbar inserts headings, bold, links and lists, so you need fewer symbols from the on-screen keyboard.
