A notepad that keeps every note
This online notepad is a free place for quick notes: type, and each note is saved in your browser a moment later. Keep as many notes as you like, switch between them in tabs, tick off checklists and search everything you wrote. There is no account, and a note leaves this device only when you download it.
How it works
- Type. The note under the tabs is ready for typing. Its first line becomes its name, so there is nothing to fill in first.
- Add another. The + at the end of the tab row, or Ctrl+Alt+N, starts a fresh note in a new tab. Click a tab to go back to a note.
- Find it later. Every note is also in the list on the left (behind the list button on a phone). Search there looks inside the notes as well as their names.
- Keep a copy. Notes save themselves in this browser. Download one as a text, Word or PDF file when you need it somewhere else.
Notes that stay on your device
There is no account and no server copy. Notes sit in the storage your browser keeps for this site, which is why the notepad opens instantly and writing and saving go on when the connection drops. The flip side: a note is not on your other devices until you download it there, and clearing this site’s data in the browser removes the notes. Use ⋯ → Back up all documents now and then to keep a copy of everything in a single .zip file.
Made for quick notes
- Tabs for the notes you have open, kept between visits
- Checklists, bulleted and numbered lists
- A short toolbar: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, links and lists
- Search across every note, not just the titles
- The first line becomes the title by itself
- Deleted notes can be brought back for 30 days
- Download a note as text, Word or PDF, or back up all of them at once
- Dark theme and a focus mode that hides everything but the note
More ways to write

- Online word editorA page view in A4 or Letter, ready to download as .docx or PDF.

Every editor works on the same documents in this browser: a note started here is in the list there too.
Questions
Does this online notepad save my notes?
Yes, by itself. Every change is stored in your browser on this device within a second, and “Saved” next to the title confirms it. Close the tab or restart the computer and the notes are still there. Clearing the site data for wordpadonline.com in the browser deletes them; so does closing a private window, and Safari may clear a site’s storage if you do not open it for a week or more, so download what matters.
Can I keep several notes open in tabs?
Yes. Each note you open gets a tab above the page, and the + button at the end of the row starts a new one. Up to 12 tabs stay open; the oldest closes by itself when you open more. Closing a tab does not delete the note: it stays in the list, and opening it again brings its tab back.
Can I protect a note with a password?
Not at the moment. Notes are never uploaded, so nobody can reach them over the internet, but anyone using this browser profile can open them. On a shared computer, use a browser profile of your own, or download the note and delete it here when you are done.
How do I get a note onto my phone or another computer?
Notes live in one browser on one device. Download a note as a text, Word or PDF file and open it on the other device, or choose ⋯ → Back up all documents to save every note in one .zip, then Restore from backup on the other device.
Is there a limit on the number or length of notes?
There is no set limit. Notes share the storage your browser gives this site, usually hundreds of megabytes or more, and text takes very little of it. If storage ever runs out, the notepad says so and offers a download.
Can I make a to-do list?
Yes. Press the checklist button, or type [ ] and a space at the start of a line. Tick items as you finish them and they are crossed out. A - or 1. at the start of a line makes a bulleted or numbered list the same way.
